Alternate Setup and Email Forwarders

23 Oct 2007 In: Ampli5.org

If you don’t want a WordPress blog on your subdomain, that’s fine with us. You are free to install some other blogging script or even maintain a static page. No problem.

We also offer you email addresses forwarding services. For example, if you have a blog at http://swatkats.ampli5.org you can have any number of email address like razor@swatkats.ampli5.org, tbone@swatkats.ampli5.org and darkkat@swatkats.ampli5.org. Just contact us and tell us what you would prefer and we’ll set it up such that all mail to these addresses are sent to your primary email address.

Forgot Your Password?

21 Oct 2007 In: Ampli5.org

Members are in the habit of forgetting their passwords and emailing me asking for new ones. The email I send out during blog creation is titled Blog Details - DO NOT DELETE but people still manage to delete it, lose it or forget which email account it resides in.

Giving them a new password involves going to Cpanel, then PHPMyAdmin, finding their database, finding the users table, deleting the password, setting a new password and then MD5 hashing it and then mailing users their new password.

Instead of giving me work users can just use the Forgot Password feature on their login page to get a new password!

How It Works

20 Oct 2007 In: Ampli5.org

When we were setting up Ampli5.org we were considering using WordPress MU. However installing it was complicated and it didn’t always support all the plugins and themes that worked well in standard WordPress versions. So we decided to install stand alone WordPress versions for each user and leave them in charge of upgrading their blogs as they saw fit.

When someone contacts me or George and asks them for a blog, I give George their contact details and he sets up the WordPress blog and I sometimes do the Cpanel backend work such as databases. WordPress automatically sends out an email with username and password details to the user. This email is promptly lost in the spam or gets deleted and most of the time we end up having to send users a new password. Then later I send them another email with FTP details and some other information.
