SRG Clean Archives

6 Jan 2008 In: Plugins

This plugin can create a nice list of all your posts in an archive page. Simply create a new WordPress page called Archives or whatever you want and put the function call given on that page. (You might also have to get a plugin to execute PHP in WordPress pages for this to work.) You will see a list of your post titles classified by month.

The problem is, if you have 700 posts like me then it will make over 700 queries to your database to display the page. Massive database load.

Hello Dolly

15 Dec 2007 In: Plugins

This plugin comes with WordPress and is totally useless. All it does is display random lyrics from the song Hello, Dolly by Louis Armstrong. Delete it immediately since it is totally pointless. I wonder why they include it in every version…

I’m not linking to the plugin since it does nothing interesting or useful.

SEO Title Tag

10 Dec 2007 In: Plugins

This is a very useful plugin that puts the title of the post in front in the page title so that search engines can index them better. I’ve used this plugin for a long time and results are noticeable. WordPress by default puts the blog title first and this isn’t useful to us in any way. Install this plugin immediately.

Search Phrases

5 Dec 2007 In: Plugins

The Search Phrases plugin will display a list of the search phrases that people looked up on search engines and used to arrive at your blog. Really useful information to determine the type of audience your blog is attracting and to see how popular you are. The problem is sometimes you get indexed for the search terms themselves and they produce interesting loops.
